Shameless Plugs: Derelict Transdimensional Anomaly

So, hey, are you in the market for a free one page science fiction system neutral pointcrawl? Well, you're in luck!

This is an entry for the One Page Derelict Jam 2024. It seems that I was so enthusiastic about this jam that I have the first submitted entry...

I'm going to use this blog entry to add some thoughts about the adventure that didn't fit on one page, things I de facto cut because I knew they wouldn't fit.

Potential spoilers!

In no particular order:
  • I'd suggest a cave-in be one of the hazards in the fire room.
  • Adding in NPCs would probably make this more interesting, though there's something to the eerie emptiness of it that I like as well. But an NPC who doesn't remember their previous conversations with you, who meets you anew every time you return to the room.... That's an interesting thing to interact with. Ever seen Memento?
  • I didn't get a chance to mention what cybernetic implants the T. rex has. While I encourage the GM to decide on their own, if I was going to suggest a list, I'd say a targeting eye, some sort of built-in machine gun, and a grappling arm to give the poor old thing some actual reach that a T. rex doesn't normally get.
  • The reason I chose Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary in 1946 is because that was when the most violent escape attempt in its history, the so-called "Battle of Alcatraz," happened, in case the GM thinks the adventure isn't dangerous enough. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Alcatraz
  • If #6 includes a loop with the PCs' ship, consider including mildly insane versions of the PCs, who kinda-sorta know that time is looping.
  • If the linking of the timeloops wasn't broken, the T. rex room would contain boxes of miscellaneous supplies as well as bathroom and showering facilities, all in a hardened bunker in the Jurassic period. If you want more color, maybe the bunker still there, only destroyed by the T. rex ... It's still an alternate timeline, so even the debris could be weird, maybe showing signs the facility was intended for non-human lifeforms.
  • If the players are "farming" the T. rex too much, consider making that link unstable like #6 is, and putting something else there, or beefing up the T. rex
  • The possibility of another derelict ship being linked in #6 allows the use of other entries in the game jam. Even if you roll that again, you don't have to allow a return to that same derelict like you would in one the "normal" time loops.
  • To be frank, tho, my favorite part of #6 is potentially mixing stuff together. Consider mixing the ship the PCs came from, and versions of the PCs, with the Battle of Alcatraz...
  • Let them enjoy the food. That's what it's there for. That and the foyer are chill areas, before it gets potentially deadly. Since the foyer can also be played as mildly unsettling, the restaurant is supposed to be the main oasis of calm in the derelict.
