As I've mentioned a few times by now, there is a great channel on the OSR Discord server called #dice-democracy where you can crowdsource random tables. I'm presenting tables that I started, now that they're finished.
Therefore, this isn't 100% my work; the people on the server are very creative when it comes to stuff like this. I remain very grateful for them putting up with my ideas for tables.
d20 Disturbing Sounds
Disturbing sounds that one does not want to hear alone in the dark in an English-speaking country in the 19th century, or a setting like that.
1. Sounds of several wet things falling to the ground / floor
2. Two children raggedly singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," stopping mid verse. Hoarse breathing, then nothing.
3. Scraping. Quiet chuckling. Silence.
4. One single inhuman scream.
5. Rapid clicking that almost transforms into a voice calling your name.
6. Chains clinking on stone.
7. Insectile chittering.
8. Screaming livestock.
9. Whispers that you can't quite make out.
10. Howling winds that sound a little too close to the wails of damned spirits
11. Your own voice, crying for help
12. Nothing. No birds, no crickets, not even the sound of the wind. A dead silence hangs in the air like rot.
13. Slithering
14. Giggling, the voices just a touch too deep
15. Wet on wet. Gurgling. A muffled cry for aid?
16. Sounds of struggle: Breathing, grunts, slaps, and loud, angry screams.
17. Chewing
18. In the distance, a hunting horn. Barking... dogs? They're coming closer, at any rate...
19. Mr. Van Schoonbeek’s laugh (https://youtu.be/MQMazIaxSQ4)
20. Roll twice on table and combine. Be creative.* After the first time, a 20 counts as a 19. If you get the same thing twice, it's twice as loud! (edited)
...
* For example, consider a roll of 17 and 11. Sure, it could "just" be chewing sounds while your own voice cries for help, but consider, for example, if it sounds like "you" are the one chewing, between cries for help...
