As some of you likely already know by now, there is a great channel on the OSR Discord server called #dice-democracy where you can crowdsource random tables.
Therefore, this isn't 100% my work; the people on the server are very creative when it comes to stuff like this. I remain very grateful for them putting up with my ideas for tables.
The Failed Colony (d10)
The Imperial colony is now just empty buildings. No people. No corpses.
What happened?
1. Locusts
2. Colonists "went native" and are now part of local tribes
3. Oh, the corpses of the colonists are here. They're just out of phase with reality. That's the way the Queen of Shadow wants it.
4. The colony was established entirely by tulpas created by the freshman class at the Imperial University of Applied Theosophy. When a terrible accident at this year's graduation ceremony fatally electrocuted all the Freshman in the University, three juniors, and the cleaning staff, the psychic backlash killed the tulpas, except for a baby, the first born of the colony... and now a feral second order tulpa with a large amount of thanatological energy at its disposal.
5. The colony was actually an elaborate scheme by a turncoat noble to defraud the Imperial Crown of a substantial amount of money. Said turncoat is now living in luxury at the palace of the Empire's main rival.
6. The colonists, weary of the climate, shoved off and became pirates where it's not so fucking cold all the time.
7. A crop failure and prolonged blizzard led to widespread cannibalism. The ashamed survivors hid the evidence and fled to another colony.
8. Well, there is this nearby colony by a rival country has suddenly acquired a large number of "indentured servants"...
9. The colonists believed they were about to be eliminated by a powerful threat that was dealt with millennia ago. They decided it would be best to be uploaded into memory vessels until the threat was over. However, the equipment malfunctioned and never loaded them back into the real world
10. After an earthquake, all the colonists found, and entered, their holes. See: http://brasscockroach.com/h4ll0w33n2007/manga/Amigara-Full/Amigara-0.html
